A small but entertaining facet of our trip to Japan was the many signs used to instruct behavior and give warnings. They are impressively graphically-expressive, possibly to make sure even travelers with no concept of the language can understand their point.

Be careful of people biking or you might get smacked in the butt.

Makes much more sense when you know it appears on the train platform. (Assumed approximate translation: “If something of yours falls on the tracks, get a staff person to help you.”) We never got to see that very cool grabby contraption used, sadly.
