The music of The Way We Fall – “In The Sun”

The next song from The Way We Fall‘s unofficial soundtrack is “In The Sun” by Donna De Lory:

I mentioned last week, when talking about “Stars All Seem To Weep, that there were two songs I associated with the end of the Quarantine section of the novel. “In The Sun” is the second one. Some of the lyrics could relate directly to Kaelyn’s thoughts about her falling out with Leo (“I know I would apologize if I could see your eyes/’cause when you showed me myself I became someone else”) and her fears and uncertainties (“I don’t know anymore/What it’s for”).

But I think it’s ultimately a more hopeful song than “Stars All Seem To Weep.” The music itself is more uplifting, and other lyrics reflect Kaelyn’s continuing hope that her best friend has been spared the horrors of the epidemic and stay well, even though she knows he’ll be devastated by what’s happened to his home (“I picture you in the sun wondering what went wrong…” “May God’s love be with you/Always”).
