Giving thanks

Happy Thanksgiving to my US friends and blog readers!

Though up here in Canada we had our Thanksgiving last month, lately I’ve been thinking a lot about the things I’m thankful for. As I said to a friend the other day, I think it’s very easy to get caught up in thoughts of what you don’t have yet, that you wish you did. And there’s nothing wrong with wishing. But what is the point in accomplishing anything if you don’t take time to appreciate what you have, rather than focusing right in on the next goal?

Five years ago I didn’t know if I’d ever have an agent. I didn’t know if I’d ever sell one book, let alone four. All of that was a dream. I’m living that dream now, and I try to remember that as often as possible. It doesn’t mean everything is perfect, or easy. But then I never dreamed it would be.

So thank you, so much, to all of those who’ve helped make that happen! I hope you get to live your dreams too.
